My Story

I majored in Psychology in college. I’ve always been interested in what makes people tick. I became a lot more invested in the clinical side when I found myself struggling with my mental health after a particularly rough year.One day, as I laid on the couch, an absolute mess, I heard a commercial based on a line from a Robert Frost poem, “the only way out is through,” and for whatever reason it stuck with me. The only way to get better is to get better. What else can we rely on other old-fashioned hard work?So I go to work. Over the years, I’ve studied the master teachers of the Bible, philosophy, entrepreneurship, and world leaders who've confronted the worst that life threw at them and found a way to overcome them. I’ve also researched the latest evidence-based science from behavioral economics, neuroscience, nutrition & fitness - so that I can share those insights with you.


Hypotheses

As an entrepreneur and product leader, I've learned that we must always start with a testable hypothesis that can inform our early experiments and learnings.

If given the right guidance and encouragement, all people can achieve a life of purpose, and fulfillment

If we engage people authentically, we can stimulate social connectedness and drive activation

If we make smart investments in local ecosystems, we can build and sustain local economies

Male Engagement

Modern manhood is in a state of disrepair. From cradle to grave, we fail to define, implement, and celebrate traditions of manhood that would uphold the true standards and definitions of what it means to be a man.The goal of this project is to build/test/scale engagement strategies for males at all stages of maturity, with a primary focus on young adults. There is a certain urgency we should all feel about the state of young males, roughly 14 - 25 years. Many of our young adult males are going through the most formative years of their lives with no guidance, no encouragement, and no prospects. They have nothing to commit themselves, or to work for, and so they denigrate themselves in crime, violence, drugs, and sexual promiscuity. We need to redirect these young males into productive, and purposeful activities and programs.

Community Engagement

Large cities, like Philadelphia, are generally built to provide a set of general services at scale: sanitation, utilities, paved streets, and the like. Yes, this is a bit of an oversimplification, but the point is that cities are NOT built to meet the uniquw needs of individual communities. It’s logistically challenging, if not impossible. By definition then, underserved communities can’t get an equitable portion of management and support, at best they get an equal level - but we know that’s not true either. The conclusion then is that underserved communities need to become more self-reliant, by advocating for themselves, and seeking additional resources, primarily from within.The goal of this projects if to build/test/scale revitalization strategies for underserved communities. To do that, we need to:
1. bring together community leaders and stakeholders
2. identify and prioritize the unique needs of the community,
3. develop a distributed gameplan to programmatically address the needs of the community,
4. test and iterate.

Economic Development

Needless to say, systematic racism has had a tremendous impact on black & brown communities. It has been particularly restrictive in these communities' ability to generate wealth. This is from the Pew Research Center:In 2021, the median net worth of middle-income Asian ($309,000) and White ($255,100) households exceeded the net worth of Black ($74,400) and Hispanic ($100,800) households by large margins.Large margins indeed. The root of this is simple: homeownership. Due to redlining and other restrictive lending practices, these communities have not had the benefit of building and passing down generational wealth through home ownership. As a result, they’ve been unable to invest in their own businesses, or in financial markets, or college education (or other forms of professional development), or real estate holdings, or life insurance, or any other smart wealth management strategies that other races have enjoyed for generations.The goal of this project is build/test/scale new methodologies for sourcing and deploying capital in underserved communities. This means building a better pipeline between donors/investors, and in businesses, services, and programs so that we can deliver capital where it’s most needed and deserved.
